Orrido di Botri - The piccolo 'Grand Canyon'

One of the deepest canyons in Italy, a spectacular calcareous stone gorge, sometimes extremely narrow. It's crosses by an abundant torrent which forms deep pools and nemerous waterfalls. You might catch glimpses of wild booars and golden eagles.

The program

  • 09.00 a.m. Departure from Bagni di Lucca
  • 10.00 a.m. Arrival at Orrido di Botri, known as "The Grand Canyon of the Tuscany". The Orrido di Botri is one of the most appreciated naturalistic zones of the Mid Valley of Serchio. Its glacial circuses and the assortment of animals and vegetation constitute reason of great interest for Geologist, Naturalists and Hikers. To preserve the uniqueness and the natural beauties of the Orrido di Botri, a Natural Park has been instituted since 1971 to protect a surface of 286 hectares. The canyonwalk takes about 4 hours. (normal condition required)
  • 16.00 p.m. After a scenery drive, we'll be reaching the village Montefegatesi, a magnificent hill top village with the highest part of the village dedicated to the statue of Dante Alighieri. With a panoramic vista of the mountains, here you can be a witness to glorious sunsets.
  • 17.30 p.m..We'll go back towards Bagni di Lucca. Have a nice trip!

Marble Tour

Quarry of Marble - The world famous 'White Gold'

 
    Visit a marble cave in the heart of  the mountain, a striking and unforgettable sight,   
and discover where  Michelangelo used to choose the whitest marble for his masterpiece David.
The program:
  • 09.00 a.m. Departure from Bagni di Lucca
  • 11.00 a.m. Arrival at the Carrara Marble District. We visit the marble caves. The mountain road that we will use will cross the beautiful Apuane Alps and is in itself worth the trip due to breathtaking scenery.
  • 12.00 a.m. Walking through the medival streets of Colonnata, famous of the production of lardo. Lardo di Colonnata is a Tuscan Delicacy, a traditional delicacy of preserved pork fat from the Apuan mountains.
    After a short sightseeing we'll be having a light lunch in a local restaurant.
  • 02.00 p.m. Driving along the mountains towards the Tyrrhenian Sea (Il mare Tirreno in Italian) is part of the Mediterranean Sea.
  • 03.00 p.m. Visit Forti dei Marmi in Versilia, the most famous coastal district, well-known for the soft contrasts of the sea with its long stretches of sandy beach and its fascinating landscape dominated by the Apuan Alps with their rugged forms and bare faces of the marble quarries.where you can stroll on the boulevard and do some shopping.
  • 04.30 p.m. We'll go back towards Bagni di Lucca. Have a nice trip!

Caves Tour    
Grotta del Vento - The Windcaves and more  
 
This exciting adventure takes us to the Apuan Alps,where we visit one of the world's most complete cave.  
 Inside the cave  are easy footpaths reavealing the magical underground world of   stalctites and stalagmites, waterfalls, 
crystal lakes and deep emerald green pools   created over 20 millions of years.  After the lunch we will visit the  village of Valgi Sotto, 
situated in the middle of   the Regional Park of the  Apuan Alps, built centuries ago on the top of a mountain hill in the Vagli lake.  

The program

  • 09.00 a.m. Departure from Bagni di Lucca
  • 10.30 a.m. Arrival and visit The Grotta del Vento.
  • 12.00 p.m. After the cave tour we'll be reaching the old monastery 'Eremo di Callomini' situated at the base of an overhanging rock where we will have a traditional Tuscan lunch.
  • 13.30 p.m. Driving along the Apuan mountains.
  • 14.30 p.m. Relax by the lake of Vagli Sotto. There may be a chance for an optional boat trip where we float above the submerged village in the water beneath.
  • 16.30 p.m. We'll go back towards Bagni di Lucca. Have a nice trip!
